Our Schools Unite for Children's Mental Health

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the communities we serve, all of our schools proudly came together to raise awareness and funds for Young Minds, a charity dedicated to improving children’s mental health. Through a range of creative and engaging activities, our pupils are not only contributing to an important cause, but also learning valuable lessons about wellbeing, resilience, and the power of community.

Across our schools, events took place to support Young Minds included:

  • St Sebastian’s C of E Primary School hosting a ‘Happy Monday’, where pupils wore bright colours to spread positivity.
  • Uplands Primary School and Nursery having a fun-filled day of fundraising.
  • Coombes C of E Primary School pupils taking part in an obstacle course, promoting movement and mental wellbeing.
  • Crazies Hill C of E Primary School focus was on mindfulness and yoga, with pupils dressed in yellow to show their support.
  • St Nicholas C of E Primary School plans to run a Crème Egg Challenge, bringing fun and engagement to fundraising.
  • Polehampton Infant and Junior Schools pupils will take part in a sponsored run, combining physical activity with charitable giving.
  • St Cecilia’s C of E Primary School are planning a sponsored walk, with each class working together to reach a set destination.
  • St Michael’s C of E Primary School holding a Hello Yellow Day and will offer a collection at their Easter Service.

Some of our schools also supported Young Minds through Children’s Mental Health Week, engaging pupils in activities that encouraged emotional awareness and wellbeing. Sonning C of E Primary School pupils dressed as colours from Inside Out, took part in a collective worship, and explored emotions through various activities throughout the week. Similarly, Alder Grove C of E Primary School embraced the theme Know Yourself, Grow Yourself, incorporating discussions, creative sessions, and a colourful dress-up day inspired by Inside Out to help pupils recognise and understand their emotions. Earley St Peter’s C of E Primary School celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week by highlighting the importance of wellbeing and self-care for pupils. Supporting mental health links closely with the British Value of Individual Liberty, teaching children to make informed choices, develop confidence, and take responsibility for their wellbeing. Throughout the week, pupils explored how to express their thoughts and feelings in healthy ways, understand their right to be heard, and support one another with kindness and respect.

These collective initiatives reflect our schools’ shared commitment to both civic duty and mental health advocacy, ensuring that our pupils not only give back to the wider community but also develop a deeper understanding of the importance of mental wellbeing.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our pupils, staff, and families in supporting Young Minds. Together, we can make a difference - one small act of kindness at a time.
