Digital Parenting Support for Families
Oct 25 2024
In a powerful initiative to strengthen digital safety awareness, The Keys Academy Trust recently hosted Parenting in the Digital World online workshops for all schools within the Trust. These successful events, developed in collaboration with The Stay Safe Initiative, provided parents and carers with crucial tools and knowledge to guide their children through today’s increasingly digital landscape.
Understanding the unique challenges that come with parenting in a digital world, we organised these workshops to address common concerns and provide straightforward advice. Led by Richard from The Stay Safe Initiative, the workshops offered insight into the digital activities’ children engage in and addressed essential topics like online safety, setting boundaries, and nurturing an open line of communication.
The workshops emphasised the importance of:
- Engaging in open conversations with children about their online interests and activities.
- Setting collaborative digital boundaries to guide children’s online use responsibly.
- Demonstrating positive digital habits by limiting device use during family time and prioritising face-to-face interactions.
- Delaying personal device ownership for primary-aged children, encouraging them to use a shared family device instead.
Recognising the reality of online risks, including grooming, bullying, and exposure to unsuitable content, The Keys Academy Trust has equipped parents with resources and a guidance video to reinforce these messages at home.
Empowering Families Across the Trust
This initiative was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, who expressed gratitude for the practical support provided. Through these workshops, The Keys Academy Trust has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering parents as the primary advocates for their children's well-being in a digital age.
