Biggest Ever Football Session

The Keys Academy Trust was proud to take part in The English Football Association’s ‘Biggest Ever Football Session’ on Friday 7th March, a nationwide initiative to celebrate and encourage girls’ participation in football. The event, held at Alder Grove CofE Primary School, saw 80 girls from Year 3 & 4 across the Trust come together for an unforgettable day of sport, teamwork, and inspiration.

The session was supported by the Reading FC Community Trust, whose coaches delivered engaging activities designed to develop skills and build confidence. Adding to the excitement, players from the Reading FC Women’s Team made a special appearance, offering advice, encouragement, and sharing their own experiences of playing football, as well as getting involved in matches with the girls as well.

The event was a resounding success, with the girls showing incredible enthusiasm and energy throughout the day. It reinforced the Trust’s commitment to fostering a love of living a health and active lifestyle and providing opportunities for girls to engage in football in a fun, competitive and supportive environment.

"It was fantastic to see so many girls enjoying football and being inspired by the brilliant coaches from the Reading FC Community Trust as well as players for the women's first team," said Philip Theobald, Headteacher of Alder Grove CofE Primary at The Keys Academy Trust. "Initiatives like this play a vital role in breaking down barriers and encouraging more girls to get involved in sport. We hope the girls from across the Trust had a brilliant day and it will inspire them in the future to continue to get involved in sport, no matter what it is or at what level."

Hester Wooller, Chief Executive Officer of The Keys Academy Trust, added: "At The Keys Academy Trust, we are passionate about creating opportunities for all our pupils to flourish, and events like this align perfectly with our vision of providing excellent learning and pastoral care for pupils. We hope this experience will encourage them to continue enjoying sport and physical activity for years to come. Through innovation, partnership, and excellence, we aim to nurture a love of learning and create enriching experiences that benefit not just our pupils, but the wider communities we serve."

This event reflects The Keys Academy Trust’s dedication to empowering pupils and ensuring they have access to enriching experiences that support their wellbeing, teamwork, and personal growth, all while strengthening their connection to the communities around them.
